Auditions

The Lubbock Chorale looks for the best vocal talent from the South Plains area. We are a community-based ensemble of about 120 voices. People interested in singing with the Chorale should have some experience singing in choral ensembles, such as high school, college or church choirs. Singers should be able to read music and possess a voice that blends well with others.

Auditions are open two times a year: main auditions in August and supplementary mid-term auditions in January. Main auditions take place in August of each year, with supplemental auditions in January. We warmly welcome inquiries about becoming a singing member of The Lubbock Chorale! Auditions for our 43rd season will be held at the TTU School of Music on Tuesday, August 28th (2018), working backward from 7pm. Auditions for the Chorale consist of a brief solo that the applicant prepares and performs (pianist provided) and that best shows the natural qualities of one's voice; vocalization (guided); and possibly a brief sight-reading/rhythm example or some pitch memory examples (singing back three to four pitches played on the piano). The solo can be as simple as “Happy Birthday,” “My Country ‘Tis of Thee;” or a hymn or folk song. Members may choose to not participate in any particular concert cycle, but there are rehearsal attendance requirements for each cycle.

Membership dues will be announced at the beginning of the season, are payable at the beginning of the performance year, and are non-refundable.  Members may divide the cost of dues into 2 payments that will be due at the beginning of each semester. The Council President may be contacted for more information concerning financial hardship.

If you would like to schedule an audition, please e-mail Dr. John Hollins at john.hollins@ttu.edu.

Thank you so very much for your interest in The Lubbock Chorale!
